Reel Kingdom keeps churning out retro fruit machine-inspired releases, and Hot to Burn Extreme is the 3rd installment in the range thus far. While the original Hot to Burn was about as barebones as it gets, the second release, Hot To Burn: Hold & Spin, took everything to a whole new level. ‘Extreme’ is a better description for that game than the one at hand to be honest, as this is “Hot To Burn Mediocre” more than anything.

First of all, the 5,000x potential has been sliced significantly since the previous release, although it’s also a lot higher than what you get in the first game. Featurewise it’s less extreme too, sporting a high value wild and a bonus round with what appears to be more frequent wilds and scatters. Nothing original or extreme to see here really, but fruit fans might enjoy the retro presentation.

The fruit machine symbols, with the lucky number 7 throning at the top, pay between 2.4 and 125 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins. The jester wild can appear on any reel, and the wild symbol substitutes for pay symbols to help complete wins. Wilds pay the same as the top-tier 7 symbols if you land pure wild wins.

The Bonus Round triggers when you land 3, 4 or 5 star scatters anywhere in view, and this awards 10, 15 or 20 free spins, respectively.

We couldn’t detect any difference in the bonus round, although the paytable claims that “special reels are in place during the feature”. Wilds and scatters seemed to land more often, especially wilds, but that’s it.

You can retrigger the bonus round seemingly indefinitely, and you get the same amount of additional spins for the same amount of retriggering scatters as described above. Review Summary

A game like Hot to Burn Extreme is obviously aimed at a certain crowd, namely those who find nostalgic pleasure in simple, fruit machine-like games. The 2 previous installments haven’t really been wildly successful, but there is clearly an audience for games like this, and that will probably always be the case. Hot to Burn Extreme is far less ‘extreme’ than the previous Hold & Spin installment, at least in terms of potential.

You can win up to 5,000x your stake at best, which is 5x what’s on offer in the original game, but only a quarter of what you get in the aforementioned hold & spin release. The pace is excellent if you hold down the space bar to spin, but there isn’t all that much to see in this game to be honest. It’s extreme compared to the wildless original with zero features, but we’d prefer the hold & win installment if we had to choose between the three.
