There is a real danger that Playtech Origins will soon run out of gods to feature, as pretty much everything the western pantheon has to offer has now been portrayed in this series. This time giants have been included in the mix, and perhaps they will throw in some regular trolls next time. Either way, Age of the Gods Norse Gods and Giants is the latest title to combat the legendary status of the original game that started it all, but we hardly think this distant cousin has any real claim to the throne.

The visuals are nicely done as usual, and the giant 3x3 symbols look good whenever you actually get to see them in full display on the reels (which is not all that often). The reels are set against a harsh snow-filled landscape, and the rugged mountains of nordic countries are as unforgiving in winter season as the game itself. Highly volatile for sure, but offering only a max win of 1,000x your stake outside of the 3 progressive jackpots, this game’s math model doesn’t really make much sense.

The 2 base game features can be helpful at times, but they don’t really trigger all that often. When you do get them, it will many times fizzle out into nothing. That being said, we did have some decent wins in our 200 spins test session you can read all about further down in the review.

The giant symbol will then nudge into place, so it fills the 3 middle reels completely. The 200 Spins Age of the Gods Norse Gods and Giants Experience

The time has finally come to put this game to the ultimate 200 spins test, and we were eager as always to get started with the spinning. The Gods and Giants slot offers an interesting mix of features, and the giant symbols are visually pleasing when they land in full view. We loaded up the autoplay feature with our first 100 spins, and soon noticed something rather annoying.

The pace is okay as long as you don’t win, but every single win (big or small) is followed by the longest pause we’ve ever seen in a game. You’ll have to endure the game highlighting the payline you won 0.2x at like 8 times, and the whole nightmare lasts for 5 to 6 endless seconds. You have to click the spin button to short it down, which defeats the whole purpose of the autoplay feature, and the whole thing is just incredibly bad for the flow and enjoyability of the game.

Anyway, we started out with plenty of dead spins and smaller wins, just as we expected from a highly volatile Playtech game. Suddenly the beast symbol landed as a 3x3 giant symbol in the middle, and the Respins feature was triggered. We actually managed to fill the entire screen with this symbol, and got ourselves a decent payout of 50x our stake.

Our session continued with smaller wins and dead spins, until we finally triggered the bonus round. It took us around 120 spins for this to happen, and a 3x3 giant wild in the middle gave us a solid payout right away. We triggered the Respins feature 2 times within the bonus round, but it didn’t really amount to all that much here. In the end we got away with a total win of 101.9x our stake, but we were still a bit in the red from the totality of our 200 spins session.

Review Summary

Age of the Gods Norse Gods and Giants is a decent addition to the series, but not really all that memorable. The 1,000 max win potential is a bit weak for this kind of volatility, but you can always hope for the Ultimate Jackpot.
