Nightmares vs GigaBlox Review

Well, we have seen Rampage-like monsters in the VS debut release from Hot Rise Games, before they allowed gods to duke it out in their follow-up release called Gods Vs Gigablox. Nightmare Vs Gigablox is a full-blown horror release, and you get to meet creepy characters such as Max Wolf, Vamptress, Swamp Man, Dead Beard, Adam Frankenstein, and Princess Cleo. The eerie soundtrack sets the mood from the start, and massive Gigablox up to size 6x6 can fill the whole grid with matching symbols.

Nothing much else is going on in the base game, but you get a Gigablox per spin and also the high-value wild symbol can land in larger sizes this way. The VERSUS Bonus Round is the big attraction, of course, and you get to see randomly chosen horror characters duke it out via symbol collection meters. This unleashes different features, and taking a meter all the way to the top awards a larger prize. The 7,353x potential sits square in the middle of the 2 previous installments, but this game is also a tad less volatile.

Nightmares vs GigaBlox Slot Features

The premium character symbols pay between 2.5 and 10 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and the Wild symbol can appear anywhere to help you out by substituting for any pay symbol. Wilds are also the most valuable symbol in the game, as they pay up to 50x your stake should you land 6 wilds on a payline.

All symbols can appear as Gigablox between 2x2 and 6x6 (full grid) in size, and a Gigablox symbol is guaranteed per spin.

You need 6+ scatters anywhere in view to trigger the VERSUS Bonus Round, and this starts you off with 6 free spins. A Champion and a Challenger are randomly selected from the premium character symbols, and they are blown up to full scale monsters on either side of the grid. The chosen character symbols are collected when they land, and this is how you progress up each monster’s feature meter. It works as follows:

  • Collect 5 symbols to get an x2 multiplier for either character.
  • Collect 10 symbols to get an x5 multiplier for the Champion, or +2 extra spins for the Challenger.
  • Collect 20 symbols to turn Champion symbols wild, and an x5 multiplier for the Challenger.
  • Collect 30 symbols to get +3 extra spins for the Champion, and +2 for the Challenger.
  • Collect 45 symbols to turn Champion symbols into x2 Wilds, and Challenger symbols wild.
  • Collect 60 symbols to get +3 extra spins (Champion), or +2 (Challenger).
  • Collect 75 symbols to turn the Champion into an x5 Wild, and the Challenger into an x2 Wild.
  • Collect 100+ symbols to win a Major Prize equal to the number of symbols collected x your stake for the Champion, and the same boosted by x2 for the Challenger.

Finally, non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can purchase the VERSUS Feature for 80x the stake. The bonus round comes with an organic hit rate of 1 in 157 spins, which is better than average.

Review Summary

The first installment in the VS series, Monsters Vs Gigablox, came with a somewhat regular bonus round. Then Gods Vs Gigablox came along, sporting both a regular bonus round and the VERSUS Feature. With Nightmares vs GigaBlox, Hot Rise Games has decided to focus solely on the VS Bonus Round, which might be a good idea for a series with vs in the title. A bit more features in the base game would be a good idea as well, and something to consider for the next installment.

You get up to 6x6 sized gigablox though, which can land you full grid wins, and it’s always impressive to see these giant blocks slam down per spin. It allows you to appreciate the artwork more as well, but we still wouldn’t mind some base game extras. The VS Feature is a solid bonus round for sure, and it’s a fun race to the top where the underdog Challenger brings in the highest Major Prize if you take it all the way. The 7,353x potential is lower than in the previous Gods Vs Gigablox installment, but the volatility is less brutal as well.

Pros

  • Up to 6x6-sized Gigablox (full screen) per spin
  • VS FS w/ champion and challenger feature meters
  • Win up to 7,353x your stake

Cons

  • Watered down compared to Gods Vs Gigablox
  • Beware of adjustable RTP ranges
