Duran is a dark lord with evil intent, and he’s about to bring Mithrune under his command. Luckly, there are 5 brave Champions that are able to defeat him, and the cinematographic intro is both engaging and impressive at the same time. The diverse Champions are Anastina, Olc, Silvana, Gorm and Syn, and they have to open and enter into a portal to take on the challenge in an epic battle between good and evil.

Each Champion comes with his/her own unique modifier ability, and you’ll benefit from these at random times during base game play. The audiovisual presentation is epic, and you get plenty of action commentary along the way. The bonus round is all about unlocking as many Champions to fight with you as possible, as well as increasing the win multiplier and number of free spins. The max win of 7,500x is solid as well, and LOTR fans will probably dig this one.

You need 3 tokens collected per Champion to get a specific champion modifier per free spin, and all 5 can be unlocked.

Collect 3 potions to increase the win multiplier by +1 (up to x10, at best), and 3 scatters adds +1 to the free spins tally (up to 10, at best). When a Champion is unlocked, over-collected tokens are added to the multiplier tally.

When the multiplier is maxed out, the extra tokens are allocated to the free spins tally. All unlocked Champions are active on each free spin, and the bonus round cannot be retriggered.

Review Summary

The dramatic intro sucks you right into the fantasy world Play’n Go has crafted with a keen eye for detail, and the Eye of Sauron came to mind more than a few times during our test session. It’s hard not to be inspired by Lord of The Rings for anything related to fantasy, we get that, and the story-telling elements are nicely weaved into the gameplay via the voiceover and action commentary.

The Champions add personality to the game, and they also provide unique modifiers that can do decent damage also in the base game. The whole bonus round power up feature sounds more complicated than it actually is, perhaps, and it can be hard to get any significant amount of extra spins above the minimum of 3. Each spin can award solid payouts though, no least with several champions unlocked and a decent multiplier to boot.
