Slingshot Studios has created a decent looking classic-style game with Magic Jokers, and the harlequin symbol plays a central part in this game. This is probably why it’s referred to as “magic” in the title, and you will collect this bonus symbol, as well as a special version of it, in the Bump Up respins feature. This is how you climb the prize ladder, and it can take you all the way up to the game’s 5,000x win cap.

The main features of the game are admittedly similar to what you get in Slingshot’s recent Spin Spin Sugar, but Magic Jokers is a less volatile affair. It also comes with a special symbol in the Bump Up respins round, and the respins tally resets to 4 instead of 3. The bonus round comes with a Randomizer Wheel that gives you the number of spins, the multiplier, and the bonus symbol density level, and the Upsizer feature allows non-UK players to pay for better extras.

You win between 1 and 15 x your stake when you land 5 matching symbols on a payline, and you can land Wild symbols on all 5 reels. The wilds step in for any pay symbol to help complete and/or improve line wins, and they pay 60x your stake should you land 5 wilds on a payline.

The Bump Up feature triggers from 3 bonus symbols in view, and all symbols are cleared as you receive 4 free respins. The free respins play out on the 3 middle reels, and only blanks, bonus symbols, and special bonus symbols will appear during the respins feature.

The bonus and special bonus symbols are collected, and this is how you progress through the different prize levels.

You need only 1 special bonus symbol to progress to the next prize level, and each level-up resets the respins tally to 4 again. The Bonus Up respins feature ends if you manage to go all the way to the top, and the prizes range from 5x to 5,000x your stake. The feature also ends if you run out of respins, and this means you win the prize from the level you have achieved.

The Bonus Round triggers when you land 3 scatters anywhere in view, and the Randomizer Wheel awards 8 to 15 free spins randomly. You also get a win multiplier from the wheel, and it will be between x2 and x5. In addition, you get a bonus symbol density level of 1, 2, 3, or 4 from the Randomizer Wheel, and the Upsizer feature allows players from certain jurisdictions (not UK) to pay to upgrade what you got randomly.

The multiplier you ended up with will boost any and all wins during the bonus round, and you can also retrigger the feature.

You then get the same amount of new free spins as you got initially from the Randomizer Wheel, and non-UK players can purchase the bonus round for 50x the stake. This is done via the Bonus Buy menu which comes in the form of a star.

Review Summary

We have seen similar games from Slingshot Studios already, and not least the recent Spin Spin Sugar comes to mind. The core feature was called a Link&Win Ladder in that game, while it’s called the Bump Up feature in this game. The respins tally resets to 4 for each prize level-up in this game though, instead of 3, and you can still win up to 5,000x your stake from it. The bump up prize ladder can take you for a thrill-ride once in a while, but it can also be a frustrating affair when things don’t go your way.

The special symbol that has been included this time can help in that regard though, as it bumps you up to the next level immediately when it appears. You are at the mercy of the Randomizer when the bonus round triggers, at least to a certain degree, unless you can and are willing to pay extra for the Upsizer feature. It’s a similar feature to what you get in the sugar-laden predecessor, but Magic Jokers is a less volatile option that may have a broader appeal.
