Boilin' Pots Review

The visual presentation is somewhat strange when you think about it. You get a giant witches brew pot boiling all by its lonesome in the middle of the forest at night, only accompanied by a raven on the right-hand side. Yggdrasil has done a decent job with the witchy symbols, and the spooky atmosphere is accentuated by nocturnal animal sounds accompanied by a tension-building soundtrack.

The base game is all about expanding the grid via the upward-pointing arrow symbols, and maxing out the grid to 5x7 reels with 16,807 win ways triggers the Wild Respin feature. This can lead to pretty solid base game payouts, but many times you get only top-up wins. The 10,114x potential can be cracked from single streak respin in the bonus round, since cash symbols up to 5,000x are possible in up to 5 winning positions.

The premium symbols pay between 1.5 and 10 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the toadstool Wild steps in for regular pay symbols to help complete wins. The arrow symbol increases the grid size by +1 row for each symbol, and up to 7 rows are possible. The grid thus maxes out at 16,807 ways to win.

Each added row may reveal a new arrow symbol, and if you manage to rack up 4 arrow symbols in the same sequence the Wild Respin feature is triggered.

You get new respins as long as you keep winning, and the wild symbol can appear during this feature only. Wilds will sometimes land in stacks up to 3 rows in height, and everything resets when you hit a non-winning spin.

The Rising Reels Bonus Round triggers when you land 3 or 4 scatters anywhere in view, and this awards a 10x or 100x scatter payout up front, respectively. It’s a streak respins style feature of sorts, and it plays out on a 5x7 grid. You can land blanks, cash or win symbols only, and cash symbols come with values of 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 25x and 50x. Win symbols come with values of 100x, 200x, 500x, 1,000x or 5,000x your stake.

The middle row is highlighted by a frame, you only win when money symbols land inside this frame.

You start with 3 spins, and the tally resets for each win. The total win is summed up and paid when you run out of spins, and the feature comes with a 5x win guarantee. If your total win is below this limit, the feature goes on until it isn’t. Non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can buy the bonus round for 50x the total stake.

Review Summary

As far as we can tell, there is only one boiling pot in this game, so the title is somewhat misleading in that sense. Not a big deal, of course, but still a bit curious. The extra rows being piled on didn’t seem to have a massive impact unless you take it all the way to the Wild Respin feature, but this is also due to our limited amount of test spins and what Yggdrasil has deemed ‘super high volatility’.

With up to 16,807 win ways, you can crack the solid 10,114x potential from a single rising reels sequence, and it’s quite thrilling when you get a mix of wilds introduced as the respins keep awarding back-to-back wins. The pace of the game is kind of sluggish though, even with the turbo switched on, although it’s not the worst we’ve seen.

A 5x7 bonus round grid feels kind of wasted since only the middle row counts anyway, and it’s frustrating to see all the symbols that will never benefit you.

Pros

  • Wild Respin w/ 5x7 grid and 16,807 win ways
  • Streak Respins Bonus w/ up to 5,000x symbols
  • 50x Bonus Buy option (not for UK players)
  • Win up to 10,114x your stake

Cons

  • Too volatile for casual gamers
  • Pace is slow even w/ turbo turned on
