The original release from Alchemy Gaming, Africa X Up, was the Microgaming partner’s best effort thus far, and we’re happy to see that they’ve attempted to outdo themselves in this Greek mythology sequel. Chronicles of Olympus X UP is not the most original name perhaps, but those familiar with the first game will probably be pleased to hear that both the features and the math model have been significantly upgraded.

You can now rack up an x50 multiplier via the X UP token collection feature, and you can even pay for a better multiplier before the bonus round starts. Wilds expand whenever they land, and these are your best bet when it comes to cracking the massive 50,000x potential. You’re still dealing with adjustable RTP ranges and high volatility however, but this is a highly enjoyable installment in what looks to become an exciting series from the budding developer.

The symbol values aren’t all that high in this game, but that’s understandable when you consider the massive multiplier that can be achieved. The 5 premium symbols, Zeus, Hera, Aphrodite, Poseidon and Hades, pay between 2.33 and 4 x your stake for 5-oak.

The golden wild is the most valuable symbol, awarding 4.17x for 5 of a kind wins. However, the wild always expands to cover the full reel when it lands, and it can appear on all 5 reels. Of course, the wild also steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combinations.

Landing two X UP scatters anywhere in view awards a token that is collected in the Free Spins Multiplier Meter you see on the left-hand side.

The meter starts at 2x, going through 3x, 4x, 5x, 7x, 10x, 25x, and ending on 50x at the very top. The multiplier you achieve in the base game will only become active in the bonus round.

You trigger said Bonus Round by landing three X UP scatters on the same spin, and this awards 8 free spins. Before the feature starts however, you have the option to pay for an increased multiplier. This is called the Upsizer feature, and the cost of an upgrade is calculated individually depending on what kind of multiplier you brought with you in the first place.

Review Summary

Alchemy Gaming has done a lot of things right in this sequel, and it’s a relief that they’ve increased the potential significantly together with the multiplier range. Not that the x25 and 30,000x you get in Africa X UP was bad in any way, but doubling the multiplier without also significantly boosting the potential is a bad look. That’s not a problem however, as 50,000x is more than solid enough to make this follow-up a highly attractive prospect.

We also like the Upsizer feature, allowing you to pay extra for a better starting multiplier in the bonus round. A screen full of expanded wilds award 1,013.31x, which is the most you can hope for in the base game. You need the x50 multiplier to crack the potential from a single free spin, and things can certainly get tense when you climb the multiplier ladder all the way to the top. Overall, Chronicles of Olympus X UP is a very worthy follow-up release, and it makes us wonder what’s next.
