Solar Wilds Slot Review, Demo Play, Payout, Free Spins & Bonuses

? Solar Wilds is a blatant Starburst clone from All41 Studios, but it comes with a beefed up math model. It’s all about the Expanding Wilds Respins feature in this game too, but the RTP is a bit higher and the volatility is medium. The 1,000x single spin max win is twice what NetEnt’s wildly popular slot has to offer.

Solar Wilds Review

All41 Studios planned to release this game in early 2020, but the original title, Space Enigma, rubbed NetEnt’s legal team the wrong way. For whatever reason, Solar Wilds was apparently allowed, even though that sounds more like Starburst in our ears (a Sol is a Star, after all). Anyway you slice it, this game is a very in-your-face rip-off of NetEnt’s most iconic slot.

While All41 could have taken the opportunity to do something new and exciting with the concept, they have instead simply tweaked the math model. The Expanding Wild Respins is the “star” of the show, but you can now win up to 1,000x on a single spin, instead of the 500x that’s on offer in Starburst. The price you pay is a somewhat higher volatility, but the RTP of 96.27 % gives you better returns in the long run.

Solar Wilds Features

The sun symbol is the wild in this game, and it will expand to cover the full reel whenever it lands. The wilds can land on reel 2, 3 and 4 only, and the expanded wild reels become sticky while the remaining reels spin again. The wilds step in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combos, but they hold no value of their own.

You will only get 1 respin of the remaining reels in cases where you land multiple wilds.

However, if you land a new wild on a respin, it will expand and become sticky for another respin. This can repeat up to 3 times, giving you a final respin with the 3 middle reels fully wild.

The 200 Spins Solar Wilds Experience

We are usually excited about testing any new game, but blatant clones are not our favorite dish. We landed a couple of smaller expanding wild wins in the beginning, followed by longer dead spins sequence in the middle. A double respin with 2 expanding wilds gave us a decent payout in the end, but nothing too memorable happened. Feel free to check it all out by hitting the play button.

Review Summary

Changing the original name from Space Enigma to Solar Wilds was apparently enough to appease NetEnt’s legal team, and the blatant Starburst copycat can thus safely be released into the wild (no pun intended).

Solar Wilds Slot Pic 4

All41 could have done something remarkable with the successful concept, but they have instead decided to take the safe route in all ways except legally.

The game is clearly designed to appeal to Starburst fans longing for a bit more meat on the bone. The RTP is a bit higher, the volatility is medium instead of low and the 1,000x single spin max win is twice of what NetEnt’s most iconic slot offers. They have thus wormed themselves into a “golden middle way” position, between NetEnt’s original and Play’n Go’s highly volatile Starburst clone, Crystal Sun.

Pros

  • 96.27 % RTP is higher than Starburst
  • Expanding wild respins feature
  • 1,000x single spin max win (2x Starburst potential)

Cons

  • Blatant Starburst rip-off with different math model

If you appreciate Solar Wilds you should also try:

Starburst - is NetEnt’s most iconic slot next to Gonzo’s Quest, and it’s heavily promoted in a vast amount of bonus offers. The volatility is lower than in the game at hand, and since 16th of April 2020 you need to beware of RTP ranges. You can win up to 500x your stake on a single spin, and it’s all about the Expanding Wilds Respins feature.

Crystal Sun - also initially got Play’n Go into legal trouble with the original title, Starblast. This is your high volatility option, and the Expanding Wild Respins come with 3x multipliers for up to 9x boosts. This can lead to payouts up to 4,000x your stake, making this the most exciting Starbust clone so far, in our humble opinion.

Power Stars - is a very dated looking Greentube/Novomatic fruit slot from 2008, and it seems to be NetEnt’s source of inspiration for Starburst. Visually, the games are very different, but the core feature is Expanding Star Wilds on the 3 middle reels that trigger respins.

The volatility is mid/high, and you can win up to 1,739x your stake.
