It’s not unusual for developers to create Deluxe versions of their games sometimes, but that usually means you have a beefed up version to look forward to. Not so with Pirate Gold Deluxe. Pragmatic has made some strange choices here, like slashing off half the potential and removing the bonus round altogether. Visually, the games are very similar, although the backdrop has changed a bit.

It’s really all about the Lucky Treasure Bag feature here, and you need to land at least 8 money bag symbols to trigger it. The money bags land with random cash prizes, but they can also give you the Minor or Major jackpots. The triggering money bag symbols become sticky on the reels, and you now get 3 respins to start with.

You will only land chests, blanks or purple, red or green money bags during this feature. As long as land at least one symbol that’s not a blank, the respins tally resets to 3 again. Each symbol you land will also become sticky on the reels. The different colored money bags, as well as the chest symbol, trigger the following features:

• Purple money bag - absorbs all the money bag values that triggered the feature.
• Red money bag - absorbs all the value of the money bags currently present on the screen.
• Green money bag - adds a multiplier value of either 2x, 3x or 5x to the global multiplier that will boost your total feature win.
• Chest - retriggers the feature when the current one has played out.

The Hold & Spin Respins feature ends when you run out of respins, or when all 20 reel positions have been covered. All the money bag values are then summed up, and the global multiplier is applied if you landed at least 1 green bag.

If all 20 positions are filled, you also win the Grand Jackpot of 1,000x your stake.

A lot has been stripped away from this Deluxe version, but at least you now have the opportunity to purchase the Money Respins feature. It will cost you 100x your stake, and this gives you between 8 and 19 money bag symbols on the next spin. The bonus buy feature is not included for UK players.

Calling this a “deluxe” version of Pirate Gold is very strange. A deluxe model of something is usually more lucrative, yet the opposite is true for this game. The visuals might have been shined up a tiny bit, but the 15,000x potential is less than half of what is advertised in the original title. Pragmatic Play is known for “controversial” max wins that never seem to be realized, so we really see no reason to cut it in half in the deluxe version.

Pragmatic has also decided to toss the free spins round out the window, leaving you with only the Hold & Win Respins feature.

The different money bag features are admittedly a somewhat original twist, but landing even a single multiplier bag is not easy. The same goes for the retrigger chest by the way, but when you do get a solid multiplier the payouts can be massive.
