Cat Wilde is back in Egypt for yet another adventure, although this time she’s not lost down in some creepy tomb. Perhaps she’s doing some sightseeing in-between all the treasure hunting, as the 5x3 grid is set in the middle of a temple with the Pyramids of Giza in the background. After the previous Gonzo clone, Cat Wilde and the Pyramids of Dead returns to the well-known ’Book of’ mechanic genre.

The big twist in this release is that the scatter symbols don’t always trigger the special expanding symbol bonus round. Instead, you can also get an instant prize up to 500x, or a jackpot pick game where prizes up to 1,000x can be won. The bonus round is pretty standard stuff though, but it comes with a solid 10,000x potential and retriggers give you additional expanding symbols.

The premium symbols pay between 40 and 1,000 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins. The pyramid Wild steps in for pay symbols to help complete wins, and it pays the same as the top-tier Cat symbol. The pyramid serves double duty as a scatter symbol as well, and landing 3 scatters anywhere in view triggers 1 of the 3 following features randomly.

The 3+ triggering scatters can turn into Instant Prize symbols, and the value of these symbols will then be added together and paid.

This can award instant payouts up to 500x your stake, at best. All wins in the game can be gambled in a double/quadruple or nothing fashion, and it’s done by guessing the correct card color or suit, respectively.

Review Summary

The ancient Egypt visuals are solid as usual from Play’n Go, but it’s too bad most of the view of the pyramids in the background is blocked by the non-transparent reels. The outdoor setting is refreshing though, and less claustrophobic than yet another dusty tomb. What makes this installment stand out is the 2 features other than the ‘Book mechanic’ bonus round, but these come with moderate win caps in comparison.

Knowing the free spins hit frequency would have been useful, since the 2 other features are effectively blocking it from being triggered. The bonus round itself is nothing too special, as we’ve seen additional symbols per retrigger plenty of times before. However, the 1,000x Cat Wilde symbol gives you a solid 10,000x win cap, which is twice the usual potential. ‘Book slot’ purists will probably not be too impressed, but regular punters might enjoy the more varied feature department.
