Midway Money Review

For those confused about the title, Midway refers to the “main street” of a fairground, where all the most fun things are centered. Yggdrasil partner, Reel Life Games, has created a retro-looking (and sounding) game with Midway Money, and even if it is intentional, the presentation still looks a bit amateurish.

The game centers around one of those strength test meters you hit with a sledgehammer, and the goal is to ring the bell at the top. Most of the time the rather fit looking man can barely wield the sledgehammer though, but ringing the bell awards a mix of up to 3 features. You get a Win Minimum that can be increased indefinitely in the bonus round, and you can win up to 9,216x your stake.

Midway Money Slot Features

The premium symbols pay between 6 and 14 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and there are 3 different Wild symbols in this game. They all step in for pay symbols to help complete wins, and this goes for the 1x1 sized logo wild, as well as the two 1x2 sized Strength Meter Wilds.

If you land the 2 strength meter wilds fully in view (reels 4 and 5), the man on one of the wilds will test his strength by hitting the meter on the other wild with a sledgehammer. If you don’t manage to ring the bell via the hit, the meter moves up 5 % to make it easier the next time. This progression resets once the bell is finally rung.

Hitting the bell at the top of the strength meter triggers a spin on the Ferris Wheel.

The wheel spins to give you a random combination of features, or all 3 combined:

  • Duck Shoot - converts the strength meter wilds into targets, and additional targets may be added as well. All targets then turn into the logo wild.
  • Fire Eater - turns the strength meter and bonus symbols into the 10s. All symbols of lower values are turned into that, and you also get 2 wild logo symbols in random positions.
  • Strong Man - expands the reels randomly to 5, 6, 7 or 8 rows, with 50, 60, 70 or 80 paylines, respectively.

The Win Free Spins feature triggers when you land 3 bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5, and this awards 7 free spins. You win +7 extra spins each time you land 3 scatters during the feature, and up to 35 spins can be won in total. You will then win 10x your stake for any scatter in view after you’ve maxed out the number of free spins.

Despite what it says in the paytable, we got only 5 free spins when we tested the game, as you can see in the video below.

Anway, the feature comes with a Minimum Win that starts at 1x. The Minimum Win limit increases each time you land a win that’s higher than the current limit.

The 200 Spins Midway Money Slot Experience

You get a decent taste of the base game, before we trigger the bonus round at 0:41 into the 2:18-minute highlights video. We got 5 free spins (not 7), as mentioned above, and you can see for yourself how it all played out by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

To be brutally honest, Midway Money looks like it was created decades ago by some enthusiast amatuer wanting to make his own slot on a home computer. The fairground presentation is not very engaging, and it looks ridiculous when a muscular guy can barely wield the sledgehammer to move the meter a measly 5 % most of the time.

Once in a while the bell is rung, and you get a combo of somewhat decent features, but it hardly feels worth it to wait around for that to happen. The minimum win system you get in the bonus round many times means you simply get a 1x win per spin, and 540x is the most you can hope for from a single spin on the default grid. The 9,216x potential seems far-fetched, and we don’t recommend wasting your time to find out.

Pros

  • Strength meter wilds award combo of 3 features
  • FS w/ increasing minimum win limit
  • Win up to 9,216x your stake

Cons

  • Amateurish presentation
  • Beware of customizable RTP ranges

Golden Ticket 2 - is a carnival installment from Play’n Go, and it comes with cascading wins, and the win multiplier increases per consecutive cascading win. You get 3 multiplier wild options when the bonus round triggers, and meters can be filled to get a win spin with 2x2-sized multiplier wilds.

Zombie Carnival - is a volatile and unusual circus slot from Pragmatic Play, and you get a zombie bear wild symbols that eat brain scatters to increase the multiplier in the bonus round.
