Wicked Kitty Review

There is a reason why kitties are associated with witches and magic, and much more so than dogs. They have a mysterious aura around them, and Fantasma Games has created a cute little magic slot called Wicked Kitty which does take advantage of that fact. The kitties in this game don’t seem all that wicked, really, but they are helpful in different ways. The visuals are decent, but this low volatility installment is clearly most suitable for handheld platforms.

You get plenty of adorable creatures, but the feline sounds can probably get annoying after a while for some people. The game revolves around the Wicked Respin feature, in which blocker tiles are removed per respin to possibly boost your winnings by a multiplier up to x5 (or x10 in the bonus round). This can lead to payouts up to 4,544x your stake, which is not too shabby for a low volatility game. Overall though, we didn’t find this to be a very memorable experience.

The premium symbols pay between 1 and 4 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and you can land regular and Kitty wild symbols on reels 2, 3, and 4 only.

Both wilds step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins as their core feature.

The Kitty Wild triggers the Wicked Respin feature when part of a win, however, and 3 randomly chosen blocker tiles are removed as the respin plays out. The feature goes on as long as Kitty Wilds partake in new wins, or until you trigger the Super Respin feature.

The Super Respin feature triggers when all blocker tiles are removed, and this gives you 2 respins with all blocker tiles removed. This means that the Wicked Multiplier is maxed out as well, as indicated on the right-hand side of the blocker tile rows.

You need to remove all blocker tiles on the same row to activate the Wicked Multiplier, and rows 5, 6, and 7 give you a multiplier of x2, x3, and x5 in the base game. The multipliers increase to x3, x5, or x10 in the bonus round, and all wins are boosted by the highest Wicked Multiplier you have achieved.

The Mystery Feature can trigger at the start of random spins, and this will give you 1 of 2 different mystery features as follows:

• Mystery Pattern - awards a pattern of 1 Kitty Wild and 5 matching pay symbols.
• Mystery Kitty - adds a random number of Kitty Wilds and Kitty Blocker symbols to the grid.

The Kitty Blocker symbol cannot land organically, so it only comes about from the mystery feature. A Kitty Wild is awarded on the spin that follows after a Kitty Wild has removed a Kitty Blocker.

You need 3 key scatter symbols in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and this gives you 15 free spins.

You get +1 extra spin per key symbol that appears during the feature, and up to +15 extra spins can be won in total.

Other than the enhanced multipliers mentioned above, the bonus round plays out exactly like the base game. Non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can purchase the bonus round for 65x the stake, and the Bonus Buy feature gives you a slightly increased RTP of 94.6 %.

Review Summary

Fantasma Games likes to do things their own way, and their choice of themes are usually outside of the mainstream run of the mill stuff many developers tend to fall back to. This is a risky approach in many ways, as their games will many times lack the broader appeal of more recognizable themes. Wicked Kitty may appeal to certain cat lovers, but having nothing against the feline species ourselves, we still found this game to be lackluster and somewhat boring.

The small grid didn’t help in that regard either, and the kitty sounds became annoying rather quickly. Removing blocker tiles to possibly get a multiplier boost is more exciting on paper than in practice this time, and the 94.53 % RTP is well below average as well. This is hardly the best work we’ve seen from Fantasma in other words, although it comes with a decent 4,544x potential for a low volatility game.

We like experimental developers as much as anyone, but Wicked Kitty just didn’t quite hit the spot for us.
