It was all the way back in the infamous Mayan Calendar end-date year, 2012, that Playtech released their first branded effort based on the Hollywood blockbuster franchise, simply called The Mummy. It therefore makes sense that they follow up on that release in this numerically related and tumultuous year, 2021, and The Mummy: Books of Amun Ra is certainly a worthy sequel.

Review Summary

A proper branded effort in the ‘Book of’ genre is something we’ve been missing for a while, and the ‘The Mummy Returns’ (2001) theme is a nice break from the standard Egyptian tombs. The base game is the usual somewhat tedious quicksand grind, but at least you have 5 exciting variations of the ‘Book of’ mechanic bonus round to look forward to in this follow-up release.

One feature is similar to Book of Dead, another to Legacy of Dead, while the last 3 are more unique. The most volatile 4-spins option can be quite brutal, but it’s also your best shoot at cracking the 10,000x potential.

We quite like the 12-spins feature also, with symbols upgrade and removal. Having plenty of options is never wrong, and The Mummy: Books of Amun Ra will potentially have a longer shelf-life than many Ra copycats.
