There aren’t too many slots out there where goats take center stage, so kudos to Swedish developer Fantasma Games for doing something a bit original in that sense. The mountain backdrop is typical for Nordic countries, something this developer is obviously familiar with, and goats slide in on the mining cart train at the top of the regular grid. They serve double duty as both dropping wilds and walking wilds, and you get even more of that in the bonus round.

Every win leads to a respins feature, and if wilds drop down they become walking wilds. This is also how the total win is boosted by a multiplier at the end of the respins feature, as wilds moving off the grid increases it each time. There are a few random wild features thrown into the mix as well, and the respins will prolong your bonus round significantly most of the time. The 3,344x potential is decent, but the 94.25 % RTP is well into dealbreaker territory.

The character premium symbols pay between 2 and 5 x your stake for 5 of a kind, and the Goat Wild symbols step in for pay symbols to help complete wins. Wilds appear via the Dropping Wild feature and the Mystery feature, and they also pay the same as the top-tier premium symbol should you land pure wild wins.

Winning symbols are collected in the Win Meter, and this triggers a Respin feature.

The respins go on as long as you keep winning, and all wins are collected in the Win Meter. The total Win Meter value is boosted by the Gold Multiplier when the respins come to an end, and everything resets as the base game continues.

The Wild Train appears above reels 2 to 5, like a horizontal sliding reel, and it has 4 cart positions. Each cart carries either a blank or a goat wild, and you get a new train per spin. Winning positions are marked, and any wild carrying carts above a marked position drops the goat wild to the lowest marked position.

The Dropping Wilds drop after Walking Wilds move, and a wild will not drop if the only marked position is already occupied by a walking wild. Wilds that have already dropped move one step to the left per respin, and walking wilds that walk off the screen to the left increase the Gold Multiplier by 1 level.

The Gold Multiplier starts out at x1, and it increases per walking wild that moves off the grid to the left.

It comes with multiplier levels of x1, x2, x3, x5, x7, and x10 in the base game, and the levels increase to x1, x2, x4, x6, x10, x20, and x50 in the bonus round. The multiplier resets after the respins round ends.

The Mystery Pattern or Mystery Wild feature can trigger at the start of any given spin, and Mystery Wilds can trigger in both the base game and in the bonus round. The Mystery Pattern feature highlights 6 randomly chosen positions, and you get 1 wild and 5 matching pay symbols. The Mystery Wild feature, however, awards 1 to 3 wilds randomly placed, and these features cannot trigger during respins.

You need 3 scatters in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and this gives you 10 free spins. You get +1 extra spin per scatter you land during the feature, and this can give you up to a total of 15 extra spins. The Win Meter and Gold Multiplier resets between free spins, as in the base game, but the Respins feature seemed to trigger more frequently. Non-UK players can purchase the bonus round for 65x the stake.

Review Summary

We have to say that Goat Rush made a good first impression, as the outdoors mountain visuals did impress at first. All the goat sounds, and the annoying win count sound (takes way too long even for smaller wins), got the best of us after a while though. The initial charm turned sour like a forgotten cartoon of goat’s milk in the back of the fridge, and we started philosophizing on why goats are riding in the mining carts in the first place.

You get more than enough feature action in all stages, but it seldom amounts to anything pulse-raising. Players who just enjoy a lot of different things happening may enjoy what Fantasma Gaming has come up with in Goat Rush, but it just didn’t do it for us. The bonus round kept dragging on, with all the respins and extra spins prolonging it, and in the end we were relieved when it was finally over. We will probably not return for a second filling in other words, and this is certainly not the online slots G.O.A.T.
