More than anything, we see Mighty Masks as an indicator that Hacksaw is moving in a more mainstream direction with their production. We hope they will still touch base with their “old self” on a regular basis though, as we’ve certainly enjoyed their more peculiar “light” and “dark” side releases. Mighty Masks comes with a colorful jungle animal theme that should appeal to most players, and the animal symbols come with neat animations.

There are two main features strutting their stuff in this game, and the Mystery Masks can spread to cover full reels when a certain condition is met. Wilds can land with a number up to 50 attached, and this gives you a corresponding number of nudges on the multiplier reel. Each nudge adds to the win multiplier, and both features hit more frequently in the bonus round. The 10,000x potential is solid as well, and Mighty Masks NudgeReels™ is well worth a closer look.

The premium animal symbols pay between 10 and 20 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, while all low-value symbols pay 1x your stake for the same. The Wild symbol is the most valuable in the game, dishing out 20x your stake for 5 on a payline.

Review Summary

You cannot accuse Hacksaw of resting on their laurels, as this developer keeps reinventing themselves over and over again. They’ve gone from mostly “lightside” themed releases to become split between their dark and light side, and now they are releasing more “mainstream” golden middle way looking slots as well, apparently. Mighty Masks NudgeReels™ doesn’t quite look like a game from the Hacksaw we used to think we knew, but the cartoonish and animated visual presentation is excellent nonetheless.

The spreading of the mystery masks is a decent touch, but the Nudge Wild steals the show in this game. It can build up potentially massive multipliers with enough nudges, and this can lead to solid payouts also in the base game. Things heat up when you get more mystery symbols and nudge wilds in the bonus round, and it’s not too hard to imagine the 10,000x potential being cracked from a combo of these two features.

It’s better to mix things up than to become stagnated, and having a selection of more mainstream-looking games can hopefully help catapult Hacksaw to the next level.
