Olympus Infinity Reels Review

We cannot accuse Aussie developer, GamesLab, for having put on their creative hats with their second Infinity Reels effort. In that regard, it's way too similar to their IR debut, Royal Dragon Infinity Reels. Olympus Infinity Reels is all about greek mythology however, and it comes with a cool blue landscape backdrop that’s somewhat pleasing to the eyes.

Well known mythological characters, such as cyclops, minotaurs and Medusa populate the reels, and you get the random Fanzy Spins multiplier in the base game. The bonus round system is somewhat complicated, especially when you read about it, but the main ingredient is the well-known, incrementally increasing and non-resetting added-reel-multiplier. The biggest drawback is the measly 1,845x potential, but bonus round wins can be gambled up to 10,000x your stake.

The Zeus wild steps in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combos. A new reel is added on the right-hand side if you land a winning combo with 5+ matching symbols. If the added reel improves your winning combo, another reel is added, and so it goes ad infinitum until you land a non-winning reel.

A progressive win multiplier starts at x1, and it increases by +1 for every new reel that’s added.

Again, there is no upper limit as to how high it can go, and adding at least 12 reels in a single sequence awards the Infinity Bonus of 200x your stake. The progressive multiplier does not apply to the Infinity Bonus.

At random times in the base game, a Frenzy Spin might be awarded. This awards a random multiplier between x2 and x5 for that spin only. However, the Frenzy Spin multiplier also applies to the Infinity Bonus, if you manage to get that far in the same sequence.

When you land a win with the Lightning Bolt scatter, you get a chance to spin the Bonus Round reel. You can reject the bonus wheel spin that’s offered to play for a better one however, as there are 2 higher tiers to unlock.

The higher tiers increase your chances of landing a better bonus round from the 12 segment bonus wheel, and it works as follows:

• Cerberus (tier 1) = 11 regular free spins segments + 1 super spin segment.
• Chimera (tier 2) = 6 regular and 5 super spins segments + 1 mega spin segment.
• Zeus (tier 3) = 6 super spins segments and 6 mega spins segments.

You get 8 free spins no matter the feature tier, and super spins come with at least 1 guaranteed wild on the second reel. Mega spins come with at least 2 wilds on reel 2, and the progressive multiplier does not reset between spins during the bonus round. It increments by +1 to +5 per adde reel, and the increments increase by landing winners and decrease by non-winning spins.

Landing a win with the lightning bolt scatter retriggers the bonus round with 8 extra spins, and you can choose to gamble your bonus round winnings with up to x5 rewards. Non-UK players can purchase a bonus wheel spin for 83.33x the total stake. It comes with 6 regular segments, 2 super segments and 4 mega segments, and the RTP increases to a solid 97.38 %.

We’re not really huge fans of the infinity reels engine, as it always leaves us with an unsatisfactory feeling of never getting “to the end”. Review Summary

While the visual presentation is above average in Olympus Infinity Reels, the game itself is pretty much a makeover of their previous Royal Dragon IR. Since that one was based on Reel Play’s Giza IR, we’re not exactly blazing new trails here. The 1,845x potential has, for whatever reason, been lowered since the previous release.

The only way to win anything that resembles the potential in most other Infinity Reels titles, is to take your chances with the bonus round gamble feature.

The announced 10,000x potential from it seems peculiar however, since 5 x 1,845 equals 9,225x your stake. The whole bonus round system seems overly complicated, and there is nothing here to convince anyone who’s not already fanatic about this engine. As we’ve said before, the IR engines biggest problem is the feeling of never getting closure, and in Olympus Infinity Reels you can’t even win significant amounts without risking it all in a silly gamble feature.
