Warrior Ways is a volatile retro-futuristic samurai slot from Hacksaw Gaming, and it plays out on a 5x4 grid with 1,024 win ways. Duels play out whenever rivaling warriors land with a VS symbol between them, and the Clash Bonus Round plays out in 2 exciting stages. Warrior Ways Review

Players apparently crave “dark” subject matters more than lighthearted themes, and this has sort of split Hacksaw’s catalog in two opposite directions. Warrior Ways goes well together with their 2 most popular installments to date, namely Wanted Dead or a Wild and The Bowery Boys, but it sticks out from the bulk of their production.

We don’t mind this ‘dualistic’ approach at all, and it actually makes Hacksaw an even more interesting developer to follow. Warrior Ways is a highly atmospheric release, and it should please all fans of ninja/samurai movies and video games. You get plenty of duels to keep you warm in the base game, and both bonus rounds are interesting in their own unique way. The 10,000x potential is solid, and there is plenty to enjoy in this action-packed release.

Warrior Ways Slot Features

The 4 different color clan warrior symbols all pay 1x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, while the low-value clan logo symbols pay 0.5x your stake for the same. This puts the Wild symbol in a special position, as it pays 50x your stake for 5-oak wins. The Wild also substitute for regular pay symbols to help complete wins, like wilds usually do.

Central to the base game action is the Duels feature, and it triggers when you land the VS symbol right between 2 different clan warrior symbols.

The VS symbols can only land on reels 2, 3 and 4 only, and the 2 dueling warrior symbols are assigned with a random multiplier of x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, x15, x20, x25, x50 or x100.

The duel plays out in the form of a still image where one of the warriors kills the other, and all instances of the dead warrior’s clan symbols (both low and premium) are then replaced by the victorious warrior’s clan symbols. The VS symbol is also transformed to the winning warrior, and the victorious warrior’s multiplier will boost any win it’s involved in as a result of this.

The Clash Bonus Round plays out in 2 stages, and it triggers when you land 3 Clash scatters anywhere in view. The Collect phase of the feature is a streak respins style game, and your 3 initial spins reset for each non-blank symbol you land. It’s all about accumulating VS symbols and Clan Multiplier symbols, and the reel-specific clan multiplier symbols land with values between x2 and x100.

The clan multiplier values are accumulated above each clan-specific reel, and an Epic Clan Multiplier may land on the middle reel 3. This boosts all accumulated clan multipliers by x2, and the feature only ends when you run out of respins.

The Clash phase of the feature then starts, and you get the same amount of free spins as the number of VS symbols you collected. A Duel is guaranteed per free spin, and the different clan warriors take on the respective reel-specific multiplier you accumulated in the Collect phase.

The Conquest Free Spins round triggers when you land 3 Conquest scatters in the base game, and this awards 10 free spins. You get +1 extra spin for each new Conquest symbol you land during the feature, and the 4 clan banners become visible around the grid.

The corresponding clan banner is cut when a clan warrior loses a duel, and 2 defeats is enough to destroy a banner. This removes all instances of that clan’s symbols from the grid for the duration of the feature, as well as granting you +1 extra spin each time.

The Bonus Buy feature comes with 2 options, one for each of the features described above. You can pay 100x your stake for the highly volatile Clash bonus round (RTP of 96.44 %), or cough up 400x your stake for the medium volatile Conquest Free Spins round (RTP of 96.51 %).

The 200 Spins Warrior Ways Slot Experience

You get to see a base game duel, before we purchase the Clash Bonus around the 1-minute mark. We buy the Conquest Free Spins round right after, and it starts at 3:30 into the 6-minute highlights video. You can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

We have no idea whether or not Hacksaw’s developer department is as split as their thematic choices, but we do like the fact that they keep adding to the “dark side” of their otherwise very cozy (at least thematically) production. Warrior Ways is one of their most convoluted releases to date, and we really enjoyed the retro-futuristic visual presentation.

The soundtrack is a perfect match for this game as well, building a tense and enjoyable atmosphere.

We were reminded of Chaos Crew when the Collect phase played out in the Clash Bonus, and the Clash phase can be highly climactic if you’ve accumulated some solid multipliers. The Conquest Free Spins are also quite thrilling, as the symbol removal feature can make a solid dent with 1,024 win ways. Closing in on the 10,000x potential does require solid multipliers with such low symbol values, of course, but overall this is another innovative and highly enjoyable Hacksaw release.

Pros

  • Duel multiplier up to x100 w/ symbol transformation
  • Clash Bonus w/ Collect and Clash stages
  • Conquest FS w/ clan symbols elimination
  • Win up to 10,000x your stake

Cons

  • Beware of adjustable RTP ranges

If you love Warrior Ways Slot you should also try:

Chaos Crew - is a popular Hacksaw installment, and it comes with dark and quirky visuals and a 5x5 reel set with 15 ways to win. You get cranky cat mystery multiplier wilds in the base game, and the hold-and-win style bonus round plays out similarly to the Collect phase in this game’s Clash Bonus. The max win is 10,000x your stake.

The Bowery Boys - takes you to a very rough neighborhood of New York in the early 19th century, and this Hacksaw release comes with strongbox prizes up to 250x that you unlock by landing keys. These are pending wins that can be boosted by multiplier bombs up to x100, and you also get 3 tense and character-driven bonus rounds for payouts up to 10,000x your stake.

Wanted Dead or a Wild - is Hacksaw’s smash hit wild west release, and it comes with a 5x5 grid with 15 betlines.

You get expanding VS multiplier wilds up to x100 in the base game, and the 3 bonus rounds come with different wild features. The max win is a tad higher than usual, and it clocks in at 12,500x your stake.
