Developed exclusively for Microgaming by Triple Edge Studios and released in March 2019, Bookie of Odds is essentially a clone of Book of Oz, a well-received slot released by Microgaming 4 months earlier. Both games share the same game mechanics, payouts, and math model. The only difference of course is the horseracing theme, with Bookie of Odds capturing the buzz and excitement of big British horse racing events like Royal Ascot and the Grand National. As the name suggests, Bookie of Odds is based on Novomatic’s legendary Book of Ra, the game that inspired an entire genre of slots. The key feature here is the Free Spins Bonus with retriggers and a randomly selected expanding symbol, as well as the gold Book which acts as both the Scatter and the Wild symbol.

Triple Edge Studios have capitalized on the phenomenal success of Book of Oz by re-releasing the same game, with a different theme. With its clever title and horse racing theme, Bookie of Odds includes the player-favorite mechanic that made Book of Ra so popular (Free Spins with expanding symbols) as well as a paid Respin feature in the base game.

While the game isn’t new or totally original, the horse racing re-skin may present Microgaming with unique marketing opportunities during large horse racing events. The quality of the artwork is fair, perhaps not the best we’ve seen from Triple Edge, but overall, the game plays very well and should appeal to horse racing fans and punters. The Respin feature requires some strategy and to some degree, introduces a sense control over reel outcomes, something quite unusual for slot games. This is a fun and exciting high volatility game with good win potential and exciting game mechanics.
