Emerald King Rainbow Road Review

The red-bearded Leprechaun makes a comeback in Emerald King: Rainbow Road, which follows in the footsteps of Reel Kingdom’s previous Irish Luck release, simply called Emerald King. While the 2 games are definitely related, they come with a pretty different set of features. The Mini Slots feature is more or less the same however, and so is the 20,000x max win potential.

Visually, there is no improvement from the predecessor game. Both titles look pretty dated, and are clearly inspired by physical slot machines. The RTP of 96.71 % is slightly higher in this game though, and your main goal will be the Rainbow Road bonus trail. Reaching the “end of the rainbow” is the only way to win truly big in this game, but the volatile voyage to get there is pretty entertaining also.

You will see a random number of reels turn green on base game spins. When all 5 reels turn green on the same spin, you trigger the Emerald King Mini Slots Bonus feature.

You will then spin the 3 reels on up to 15 Mini Slots with 1 payline per slot. You can land either blue, yellow or red 7 symbols, or blanks. The Mini Reels pay as follows:

• 3 of a kind 7s of any color pay 1x your stake.
• 3 of a kind of blue 7s pay 5x your stake.
• 3 of a kind of yellow 7s pay 10x your stake.
• 3 of a kind of red 7s pay 15x your stake.

Each Mini Reel set will keep spinning as long as you keep winning, and it will stop as soon as you land a blank. Non-winning Mini Slots are removed, and the feature ends when all Mini Slots have been removed from the screen.

The Rainbow Road bonus game is triggered when you land at least 3 Leprechaun scatters anywhere in sight. You can also trigger the feature via the Scatter Eliminator Bonus Game, which we will describe after this.

The Rainbow Road comes with 22 steps, and the further you go, the higher the multiplier reward.

However, 3 of the steps trigger Mini Slot spins that play out as the Mini Reels feature in the base game (see above).

A 1-reel Mini Slot at the start of the trail determines your progress. You will land between 1 and 6 points on this slot, and you move along the Rainbow Road accordingly. You can also land a Collect symbol. This means that the feature ends, and you win the current multiplier you’ve reached.

After the final multiplier at the end of the road, there is one more step. This is the Big Money Slot. It will award a cash prize of either 50x, 60x, 70x, 80x, 90x, 100x, 125x, 150x, 200x, 300x, 400x, 1,000x, or the top prize of 20,000x your stake if you’re really lucky.

The Scatter Eliminator Pick’em Bonus Game is triggered when you land 3 Pot of Gold scatters on reels 3, 4 and 5. You will click on the scatter symbols on the reels to reveal cash prizes, and this effectively eliminates the cash prize. You will only win the final cash prize you reveal, and the range is determined by how many scatters you triggered the bonus game with:

• 3 scatters gives you a cash prize between 5x and 20x your stake.
• 4 scatters gives you a cash prize between 10x and 40x your stake.
• 5 scatters gives you a cash prize between 50x and 200x your stake.

Review Summary

Emerald King: Rainbow Road mixes together elements from popular Irish Luck classics like Reel King and Rainbow Riches, and it does so pretty well. The Pick’em Bonus Game will mostly offer “consultations prizes” that help keep you afloat in the base game. The same is true for the randomly triggered Mini Slots feature, although both features can deliver pretty solid payouts once in a while.

It’s really mostly about the Rainbow Road bonus trail here, as this where the top prize can be landed. The base game max win is only 500x, and it’s also worth keeping in mind that 12 of the 13 possible cash prizes in the Rainbow Road feature are 1,000x or below. The max win of 20,000x is therefore “out of reach” most of the time when you play. However, reaching the end of the Rainbow trail will certainly give you a thrillride to remember when it finally happens.
